Every Tuesday & Thursday, The Winchester hosts Acoustic Open Mic Night (if there is no concert scheduled).
Open Mic Night is always free and you simply sign up on the list when you get here. You get four reasonable songs (not rock operas). Though it is mostly acoustic guitars, you can bring an electric guitar or keyboard and plug into the board. Drum sets are not allowed, a hand drum or snare & brushes is ok.
Open mic night is on the front Tavern Stage. It is mostly singer/songwriter types doing mixes of covers and originals but you never know what you are going to get. There are some amazing talents, a lot of great songwriters, interpreters and even some early beginners.
You can purchase a live CD Recording of your open mic performance presented to you on the spot for $5.

On December 11th, 2003, the night before their show, Brian Willoughby, guitarist from the English folk/psych band The Strawbs came strolling in for a jam. He took the stage and played with some of the lucky attendees that night. What an opportunity.
February 28th, 2008 Pandora.com came in and set up a two camera shoot and filmed over 20 open mic performers and even interviewed some of them for their on line radio web site www.pandora.com. You never know!
