Andy Pratt -
Andy Pratt, American, rock, music, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, Avenging Annie
Andy Pratt

Andy Pratt is an American rock music singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. In the 1970s, he made a number of experimental records that were appreciated by small audiences, and scored a commercial hit with "Avenging Annie".

After words of praise from Rolling Stone magazine, he tried a more commercial approach.  Having converted to Christianity and settled in the Netherlands in 1987, he continued to make records and perform at big Christian pop music festivals.

Pratt returned to Boston after an absence of 13 years in 2004. The continually-prolific Pratt is now making a comeback with a new band as well as solo appearances at regional festivals (such as South By Southwest in 2006).  See him in an intimate solo performance live at The Winchester.  Tickets are $10.00.  9pm.

"By reviving the dream of rock as an art and then re-inventing it, Pratt has forever changed the face of rock" - Rolling Stone Magazine.

The Kelly Richey Band -
Kelly Richey, Blues, rock, guitarist
Kelly Richey
Passionate, Electrifying, Blues-Based Rock with a Psychedelic Twist!!!  “Stevie Ray Vaughn trapped in a woman's body with Janis Joplin screaming to get out.” This is how one critic describes Kelly Richey, a blues-based rock virtuoso. The attention centers around this Kentucky native’s guitar playing; Richey’s proficiency has earned her comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan while gaining her a place on stage with blues legends, Albert King and Lonnie Mack. As one journalist put it, “Imagine a cross between Bonnie Raitt and Ruth Brown and you’ve only begun to get the picture.”

Built on unforgettable and explosive live performances, the Kelly Richey Band has developed an almost cult-like following. Richey has released ten CDs, as both a solo artist and with her band. "Soul soothing music that will calm your inner beast even in bumper to bumper traffic.  Jay's music conjures up similarities somewhere between John Mayer, Johnny Cash, Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson." - Best Music Live.

Chicago based indie, pop, rock singer/songwriter Dick Prall comes to his easygoing – and sometimes goofy – manner quite naturally.  Prall has said that he relishes the very act of singingwww.dickprall.com.  Tickets are $10.00.  8:30pm.

"This guy doesn't toss off underground noise as art nor does he play the kind of mindless twenty-first century synth pop dribble that has become so popular with the mindless masses. Curtis Salgado & Band -

Blues, Soul, R&B singer and harmonica player Curtis Salgado became a part of the burgeoning Northwest blues scene starting in 1972. Eventually he hooked up with guitarist/vocalist Robert Cray, and recorded the album "Who's Been Talking." In six years with Robert, the higher level of visibility enabled Salgado to sit in with the likes of Muddy Waters, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Albert Collins and Bonnie Raitt.

Aside from being a tremendous vocalist, Curtis is one of the finest blues harmonica players in the country. In 1979, when John Belushi was in Eugene, Oregon filming Animal House, he caught Curtis' act and liked what he heard and saw.  Curtis took the actor under his wing and schooled him on blues and R&B history, which Belushi soaked up like a sponge, and used a good portion of Curtis' show as the basis for the Blues Brothers act he and Dan Akroyd put together. Cab Calloway's character in The Blues Brothers film is named after Curtis.  The first Blues Brothers' album "Briefcase Full of Blues" is dedicated to Curtis.

In the 1990's, Curtis did a stint as lead vocalist with Santana.  From 1984-1986 Curtis Selgado fronted Boston's Grammy-Winning Roomful Of Blues before returning to Portland where he formed The Stilettos, who toured nationally with such acts as Steve Miller and The Doobie Brothers.  Curtis will be performing with his band.  Tickets are $12.00.  9pm.  www.curtissalgado.com.

The Ragbirds, Folk-rock, roots, afro-beat
The Ragbirds

Folk-rock, roots, afro-beat band The Ragbirds began with a desire to create fresh, original music weaving their love of world sounds into the energetic, catchy songs that leader Erin Zindle had written. The band has come to call this unique blend of styles infectious global groove. Led by Zindle, the energetic and fiery front woman called “Highly Impressive” by USA TODAY, The Ragbirds put on a show that is designed to get people thinking, listening and dancing!  She skillfully switches between violin, mandolin, banjo, accordion, and percussion in addition to singing lead vocals, all while dancing!  The Ragbirds musical roots are deeply complex, with Americana, Gypsy, Celtic, Middle-Eastern and Latin influences.  In live performances the band incorporates variations on traditional African drum pieces.  Tickets are $10.00.  9pm.  www.theragbirds.com.

Joshua Jesty, Return of Simple,
Unsparing Sea -

Three indie, pop, rock acts from Cleveland, Ohio.
A night of great local music.

Joshua Jesty is an American indie, rock, pop singer, songwriter from Cleveland, Ohio.  He is a former member of "This Is Exploding."  Joshua became famous roughly around the time of his first solo release  "Finally, Joshua Jesty is Famous, all the hits: Volume 15" and continually writes, records, blogs, tours and appears in various You Tube videos all while waiting tables to "keep it real" with his pet rabbit named Hazel who is cuter then all get out.  www.thejoshuaweb.net.

Return of Simple plays indie, pop-rock, progressive music. Consisting of piano, bass, drums, they are an original, virtuosic, band with sophisticated yet passionate songs.  The band is three classically trained musicians, all with glasses, who sing shimmering vocal harmonies on nearly every track.  Their sound is rich in influences but highly unique; their songs are catchy without ever delving into the realm of repetitive fluff.  Every cadence, every gesture, and every minute of every song seems keenly wrought, yet perfectly natural, comfortable and familiar.
www.returnofsimple.com.

Unsparing Sea is five people singing and playing instruments...guitar, cello, saw, bass & drums...making music about mistrust, misguidance, misfortune, misbehavior, misanthropy and missiles. Woozy sea chanteys and drunken hymns sung loudly from the golden shores of Lake Erie. Its probably the music Woodrow Wilson would have made had he been more musically inclined.

Walter Trout & The Radicals -
Walter Trout, The Radicals, Blues, Rock
Walter Trout

Whether an improvisational jam or a carefully arranged song, Blues-rock guitarist Walter Trout's thirst for musical satisfaction is seemingly unquenchable. Equally capable of spontaneous serendipity as well as pre-planned perfection, this guitarist is truly in the midst of an all-encompassing love affair with the music he creates.

Being in the studio with Trout approaches temporary insanity - the excitement, the unknown, the experimentation. Truly tantalizing sounds on par with those infamous Eric Clapton licks and Stevie Ray Vaughan riffs, are testament to Trout's talent. His music speaks to your soul, warms your heart and gets your foot tapping. Trout brings the blues to life and invigorates rock in a manner all too rare these days.

Trout's reputation led to the invitation to join venerable blues rock band Canned Heat, where he remained through 1984. When the call came to join the legendary John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Trout jumped and found himself sharing the spotlight with fellow guitarist Coco Montoya. Trout and Montoya lifted the band to a new level, as Mayall's Bluesbreakers enjoyed unprecedented album sales and high profile tours in the US and abroad.  Walter will be perfoming with his band The Radicals.  Tickets are $20.00.  9pm.  www.waltertrout.com.

Ellen McIlwaine

In 1966, encouraged by folk singer Patrick Sky she went to Greenwich Village, bought from Guild Guitars the "loaner" steel-stringed acoustic used by Mississippi John Hurt and Richie Havens among others during their repairs, and met Richie, Dave Van Ronk and Odetta, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, etc. From the Blue Flames who backed up John Hammond she met Jimi Hendrix and they became friends, playing and struggling on the New York scene. After returning to Atlanta in 1967 she formed her own group, Fear Itself.  In 1970 the group dissolved and Ellen began playing solo.

Her career has spanned over 40 years and these are only a few highlights.  Don't miss seeing this wonderful, prolific slide guitar legend perform live.  Tickets are $14.00. 9pm.

"She's a tough one to pigeon-hole: her music uses the blues as a spring-board, spanning reggae, funk,
rock...mixing them in a steaming spicy melange.  Being a wickedly sharp slide guitarist is only part
of it." - Winnipeg Free Press, Canada.
