Americana songwriter Chris Castle will be touring with the Womack Family Band, making a stop in Cleveland at The Winchester.

The Drenched Earth Tour is a live musical production set in three acts, featuring songs from the Womacks' debut disc and Castle's latest release "Of God & Man (Beneath the Sun)."

Chris Castle signed his first Nashville publishing deal when he was fifteen years old.  He spent the next seven years on Music Row in Nashville, writing four hundred songs or so and working under such notable writers as; Casey Kelly (The Cowboy Rides Away), Wood Newton (Bobbie Sue), and Earl Bud Lee (Friends in Low Places), and recording at Levon Helm's home studio.  www.dirtsandwich.com

The Womack Family Band is a group of five talented young individuals based in north-central Ohio.  Complete with four part
harmony the band exudes a form of energy thought to be lost in the dustbin of history.  Blending the old forms of music, from the acoustic harmony based songs of groups like Simon & Garfunkel and the Beatles to the newer edgier sounds of groups like The Talking Heads, Sublime, and most anything in between, the Womack family tries to call upon the ghosts of music past.  If there's a band around that could please everyone, the Womack Family Band just might be it.  www.myspace.com/womackfamilyband

seemingly fragile, Woody Allen-esque presence on stage is sheep's clothing for a sharp, left-of-center, sometimes brutal (but always-hysterical) wit and deliciously dark, deadpan delivery.  He was named 'Best Local Stand-up Comedian' in Cleveland Magazine's Best of Cleveland issue.  In 2005 Mark won the Carnival (Cruise Lines) Comedy Challenge for Cleveland, Ohio and made his national TV debut when he played an over-worked snack bar employee on UPN's WWE Smackdown.

Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers,
Sara Watkins (of Nickel Creek) -

Stephen Kellogg, The Sixers
Stephen Kellogg and The Sixers
Look no further than the title track of their new Vanguard debut album The Bear to understand Stephen Kellogg and The Sixers.  As the band sings passionately, “Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you.  Sometimes you’re gonna win, sometimes you’re gonna lose…but you know in the end – there's no apologies!”

Many bands talk about “keeping it real,” but in The Sixers’ case, they mean it.  “We’re not up there projecting a personality we can’t believe in.  I think it’s important to go with the feel of each moment and take chances.  If that means we get out of synch or sing out of key once in a while, so be it.  The crags are cool because they’re interesting.”

That explains why producer Tom Schick (Norah Jones, Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright) signed up for the new record.  “Each person in The Sixers really adds a lot,” he says.  “They’re so locked in with each other. Stephen is definitely the leader of the gang, but everybody has their say,” he adds of the roles played by Boots Factor and Kit Karlson.  “They rise and fall together. It’s amazing to watch them work.”

Although The Bear is not a concept record, there is a conscious time line that the characters on the record follow and Kellogg even goes so far as to say that it's "66 percent autobiographical."  Of course, he will only elaborate on it a little, "If I explained the entire story to you, it wouldn't be as fun to dive in and figure it out for yourself," he says grinning.  "I'm sorry, but I just can't take apart every aspect of the music without taking something out of the soul of it...you'll have to experience it yourself and find meaning there."  No apologies needed.

Johnny A -
Johnny A, Gibson, Guitarist, Jazz
Johnny A

Johnny A is widely regarded as one of America's finest contemporary guitarists.  Gibson thinks so - their Custom Shop designed a Signature Edition guitar per his specific requests which, when it was marketed in 2003, placed him in an exclusive club that included legends like B.B. King, Wes Montgomery, Chet Atkins, Joe Perry, Pat Martino and Les Paul himself.

He's not a blues guitarist, although he sometimes bends stinging notes like B.B. King.  Nor is he a jazz guitarist, although there are elements of Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell in his music, and Johnny A is certainly not a pure rock guitarist, although he toured with J.Geils and Peter Frampton.  "What dictates what I do," Johnny A says, "is the song that I'm playing."  Catch him live in an intimate trio performance at The Winchester Music Hall. http://www.johnnya.com/

Arguably the pioneer of the genre known as Country Rock, Chris Hillman has carved a permanent niche in the history of contemporary American music through his work with such notable bands as The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers and the Desert Rose Band.

The only authentic Cowboy to ever be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Hillman's adept musicianship can be heard on such legendary recordings as “Eight Miles High,” and Mr. Tambourine Man," a combination of Dylan songs and the Byrds' own compositions that made Rock and Roll History as America’s answer to the Beatles.

Together, Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman changed the Byrds’ musical direction and ushered in a new era of music, that of Country Rock.  Hillman then joined Parsons in the Outlaw Country band The Flying Burrito BrothersStephen Stills set Hillman on a new musical journey when the two formed the eclectic band Manassas.

In 1985, The Desert Rose Band was formed with primary songwriter Chris Hillman on lead vocals, guitar, and mandolin.  The band also included banjoist / guitarist Herb Pedersen.  The Desert Rose band has won three Academy of Country Music Awards and has received several nominations from the Country Music Association and the Grammys.  www.chrishillman.com

Peter Tork (of The Monkees)
& Shoe Suede Blues -

Long before Peter Tork became a legendary part of The Monkees, he was a well respected musician in the burgeoning New York folk and blues scene.  Peter's gift for playing a plethora of instruments (bass, guitar, keyboard, banjo and french horn) generated high demand for his services as a sideman and back-up artist.

Peter knocked around for several hungry years in the mid-60's, hanging and performing with the likes of John Phillips, Stephen Stills, Dave Van Ronk, Van Dyke Parks and Arthur Lee.  Music legend Jimi Hendrix jammed with Peter on several occasions, calling Peter, "the most talented Monkee."

Peter realized a real love affair with the blues, and the result of that love is called Shoe Suede Blues.  His Shoe Suede Blues band-mates have shared the stage with some of the most influential recording artists of the last 50 years: Ray Charles, B.B. King, Chaka Kahn, and The Righteous Brothers.  Peter Tork and Shoe Suede Blues delivers a heartfelt soulful, uplifting and quite unforgettable mixture of blues, rock and his Monkees hits, some of which are re-worked in a fresh and interesting way.  http://www.petertork.com/

Smokin' Joe Kubek
Featuring: Bnois King -

Smokin Joe Kubek, Bnois King, Blues, Guitar
Smokin Joe Kubek (left) with Bnois King (right)

Blues guitarist Smokin' Joe Kubek is one of the hottest electric guitar players on the blues scene today.  Kubek has the technique and the chops to burn up any stage and has been doing so since the 1970's when he began frequenting the Dallas bar scene, playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan and people like the three Kings: B.B. King, Albert King and Freddie King.  He settled into playing rhythm guitar behind Freddie King for a while, until King's death in December 1976.

Kubek didn't hit his stride, however, until he teamed up with jazz guitarist and singer Bnois King of Monroe, Louisiana, in 1989.  This union began during a regular gig in Dallas when Kubek invited King to sit in and found that King's softer, jazz-based guitar and vocals perfectly complemented Kubek's headier rock-inspired guitar work.  The two formed a band and have been playing, touring, and recording together ever since.
